“Seeing with the eyes of Christ, I can give to others much more than their outward necessities;
I can give them the look of love which they crave. ”
Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
Deus Caritas Est, #18
St. Anthony's Bread: St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is a partner with the Capital Area Foodbank and houses a food pantry for those in need in our community. The food is distributed on the last two Wednesdays of each month between 9:00am -12 noon by a team of volunteers from the parish. Christ recognizes our need for real food by giving himself to us in the Sacrament of the Eucharist as bread and wine.
St. Vincent De Paul is a worldwide organization of lay Catholics following Christ's call to serve those less fortunate. Our chapter's goal is to build personal relationships with our neighbors in need, not only providing material assistance such as food or clothing., but also offering friendship, understanding, and prayer. To join or volunteer, Contact : Gary Reyes at [email protected]. We meet at the St. Vincent De Paul Conference room accessed from the parking lot. Volunteers are needed starting at 8:30 AM on the on the last two Wednesdays of the month to greet those coming to use the pantry, bring food to those who cannot come to the church, answer questions, fill bags, and administrative duties.
The St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry here at St. Anthony's is in particular need of cooking oil. If you could donate a bottle of any king of salad or cooking oil (in plastic or metal containers - no glass please) and leave it in the vestibule of the church before the end of October, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, the white box in the church vestibule is for personal hygeine/tolietries (individual/travel) size that the committee delivers to the New York Avenue Catholic Charities Men's Shelter. We also have a site in need of Women's toiletries so both can be deposited in the white box in the vestibule.
Parishioners are encouraged to contribute to the St. Anthony's Bread : St. Vincent de Paul Emergency Food Pantry that is such a help in assisting our hungry neighbors. This is a work done by St. Anthony himself!
Donations for the Emergency Food Pantry can be brought to the vestibule of the church anytime it is open (8am - 7pm daily). We, as a parish, also make a concerted effort to do a monthly food drive on the 3rd Sunday of each month to restock the pantry before it is open to those in need on the 4th Wednesday.
We're gladly in need of the following non-expired items in good condition:
**Please do not bring goods in glass containers.**
St. Anthony's Church and those we serve thank you in advance for your generosity and care for the community.
Note: If you would like to contribute towards larger items (such as turkeys and hams) for holidays, please contact Father Fred.
If you'd like to make a monetary donation to help fill the pantry, visit Faith Direct (our parish code is DC463) and note food pantry or contact Fr. Fred at the parish office.
